European Animation Masterclass: Professional preparation for the European animation industry
Halle (Saale), 25 May 2010 – Following the EAMprofessional, the training programme for professionals in the animations industry, the EAMgraduate, too, is entering a crucial stage: close of applications for the EAMgraduate Masterclass, which this year takes place from 5 July to 8 October, is 18 June 2010.
The EAMgraduate is aimed at university students and graduates from the fields of animation, art, graphics, design and related disciplines. The programme takes place in Halle (Saale) and covers a period of four months. The pre-course for the Masterclass - which can also be attended individually - commences on 5 July 2010.
The objective of the EAMgraduate is to prepare the maximum of 20 participants for a professional career in the European animated film industry. The challenges of actual animation production are as much a part of this programme as the teaching of theoretical knowledge and its application in the production of an own animated short film. The conclusion of the Masterclass takes place in the form of a public presentation of the work completed – naturally in front of professionals, who increasingly also use this as a recruitment event. Following completion of the student films these are then submitted to well-known international festivals.
The Masterclass students are supervised by trainers and lecturers with years of experience in the European animation industry.
Their professional background with specialisation in focal areas of the animation sector guarantees the imparting of realistic production process procedures, in keeping with the requirements of the sector.
The European Animation Masterclass is one of the most successful initiatives of the International Academy of Media and Arts e.V. and has been held in Halle (Saale) since 2005. Initially, the training programme of several months was identical for young talents, university graduates and participants with initial professional experience. Following the analysis of the requirements of the animation industry the EAM was differentiated to include special offers for graduates and students (EAMgraduate) and those with professional experience (EAMprofessional) respectively.
Today, graduates of earlier EAM courses work for well-known studios such as Aardman, MotionWorks or Trikk17. Many of the alumni now work worldwide as freelance artists or independent filmmakers. Some of them also find their way back, passing on their experience as lecturers for the European Animation Masterclass.
Previous EAM courses have produced animated short films that have enjoyed success at international film festivals. Most recently, two EAM graduates won prizes at the Leipzig short film festival "Kurzsüchtig": Falk Schuster – EAM participant in 2008 – for his end-of-course film at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design, Halle, "Laufende Geschäfte", and Maria Kalcheva for her EAM end-of-course film "Score", which won the junior talent prize of the Filmverband Sachsen. Stills from "Score" can be found in the enclosure, we will be happy to send printable versions on request.
